FAQS

What age is best to start the programme?

The ideal age to begin the programme is seven years or over. The child must be able to actively participate in the programme. Some younger children may be suitable for a modified programme tailored to suit their individual needs.

What does the programme involve?

The child performs daily movement exercises with the support of the parent. These exercises take 5-10 minutes. The programme may also involve advice and support regarding behavioural or emotional management strategies. Auditory stimulation may also be required.

What informs the type of exercises used in the Brain & Behaviour Enhancement Programme?

The type of exercises used depends on the level of motor system maturity/immaturity. They vary depending on the child’s individual profile. The exercises are designed to replicate movement patterns of early development.

How long does the Brain & Behaviour Enhancement Programme last?

On average the whole programme lasts between 12 and 14 months.

Are there any side effects to the programme?

When the child starts the programme there may be a short period of regression. This may initially exaggerate the existing problems and may only last 2-4 weeks.

Is the programme expensive?

The programme has been referred to as very reasonably-priced by parents. All fees will be outlined prior to embarking on the programme.

What improvements might first be noticed?

Improvement in the child’s self-esteem and confidence is what parents usually comment on first. Balance and coordination are also mentioned among the initial improvements. Parents and teachers frequently comment on improved concentration, focus, ability to socially interact as well as engagement in extra-curricular activities. Later in the programme, improvements in classroom behaviour, reading, writing, and interaction with peers in the playground are observed.

Can the problems that Brain & Behaviour Enhancement address resurface when the programme is finished?

No – the benefits of the Neuro-Motor Developmental Treatment programme continue long after the programme is complete.
